Editorial Report One: Conversation Collection
Due:
For Class Thursday March 8, 2018
Overview
You are the part of an editorial team for a publisher that produces an online magazine directed at college students in first year and advanced writing courses that focus on contemporary issues. Your writers produce “Conversation Collections”– annotated bibliographies that introduce students to a “Conversation” around an issue that has contemporary significance. Here’s how the publisher describes them.
For students, they model how to summarize and evaluate courses as well as show them, through the introduction, how to describe a conversation around an issues. For teachers, the provide examples and resources that students can build on when they are assigned writing meant to teach argument and source searches.
You’ll complete a report for each colleague that will help you prepare for an editorial meeting, where you’ll combine your assessment into recommendations for revision that you’ll put into a letter you’ll write together.
I will collect your reports in the next project folder.
Instructions
Reading and Preparing Your Report
Use this form for your report: Editorial Report: Conversation Collection.
As editorial staff/writers, your goal is to help your colleague produce the best possible work– to realize what the publisher, students, and teachers want. Read each in the following way.
First, quickly skim the group you’ve been assigned so that you have a sense of their overall quality. Sort them according to your assessment– based on your gut, group them according to their strengths. In your notes, write down your initial impression for each one.
After you have done that, complete the questions on this sheet.
Submitting Your Report
On Thursday, March 8, you’ll meet with your group. You will have completed a report for each of the collections submitted to your group. Together, you’ll discuss your reports, compare notes, and complete a summary. When you complete the summaries, you’ll return them to the writer, along with the individual reports and essays.
I’ll collect your report from each writer in their project folders which will be submitted later.
